5 Things Managers Should Do When Taking a Vacation, by Rocklin and Roseville Area Attorney Terry L. Gilbeau

rocklin roseville attorney1If there is one thing that every business owner and manager in the Rocklin and Sacramento area deserves each year it is a vacation. After all, you work hard, so you deserve to take some time off and enjoy a vacation. For most business owners and managers taking that time off isn’t always a stress-free event. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t be!

Taking a relaxing vacation is within reach for every Rocklin and Sacramento area business manager and owner. Here are 5 things that you should do when you want to take a vacation in order to help things go better:

  1. Make a plan. Before the vacation arrives plan out what will need to be covered and who should be in charge. Get it all down on paper and leave nothing out. The more you have the bases covered, the better off in the long run.
  2. Delegate. This is probably one of the hardest things for business owners and managers to do. They like to do everything themselves, which isn’t conducive to enjoying a family vacation. You made up your plan of action, now delegate to those you feel you can trust to carry out the tasks at hand.
  3. Set expectations. Be sure to let everyone know what is expected of them while you are away. Let them know who is in charge while you are not there, what tasks need to be accomplished, and who they can go to if there are questions or concerns.
  4. Accept some errors. Assume right off that everything will not be perfect. It never is. But as long as there are no major errors, everything else can be dealt with upon your return. Accept that there may be a few small things that slip through the cracks and that you can live with that.
  5. Relax and enjoy. Leave the office behind and really enjoy your vacation. In order for you to go back to the office a rested person with a fresh outlook you will need to first have enjoyed your vacation. Vacations are meant to reduce the stress, make life more enjoyable, and refresh us, so let it.

This winter millions of people will be planning their next vacation. If you are a business owner or manager and are planning yours, also plan how you will handle being out of the office at the same time. The more you map out your plan ahead of time the smoother things are likely to go. Follow these steps and you will enjoy your vacation and your business will keep moving along just fine!
